Installation of smart meters is first step towards handing over power sector to Adani group: Suryakant Dhasmana

Dehradun, Feb 12

Uttarakhand Congress has termed the  decision of the Uttarakhand  government to install smart meters in the state  as a first step towards handing  over the power generation and distribution of the state to Adani group in the coming future.

The Uttarakhand Congress has taken up the issue of installations of smart power meters by the Uttarakhand Power Corporation Limited (UPCL) throughout the state. While, senior party leaders including Tilak Raj Behad, Bhuvan Kapri and Adesh Chauhan addressed media persons in Kumoan region, in capital Dehradun, senior vice president of Uttarakhand Pradesh Congress Committee Suryakant Dhasmana alleged that the way the state government and the spokesperson of the ruling BJP party are counting the benefits of smart meters it was the exactly the same way when they counted the benefits of making Dehradun a smart city five years ago. Earlier, a day ago Tilak Raj Behad as a mark of protest broke the power smart meters on the road in Kumoan region

He charged that after spending thousands of crores of rupees, after five years when the District Magistrate, CEO of the Smart City Project, announced the completion of the work of smart city after, the people of Dehradun felt cheated. He alleged that Dehradun did not become smart as after spending thousands of crores of rupees, a proper drainage system is not in place in  Dehradun city.

He further said that there is a serious crisis of drinking water in the city but no new source of drinking water has been explored till date. Similarly,  garbage collection in the city is dependent on contractors and the poor condition of the roads is not hidden from anyone. He said that this was the true condition of the smart city.

Suryakant Dhasmana said that similarly, after installing smart meters, electricity consumers are not going to get any benefit, on the contrary, it is an attempt to finally hand over power sector of the state to Adani group as done in other BJP ruled states .  Dhasmana said that the Congress Party is strongly against the installation of smart meters and the party will run a state-wide public movement against the move.
