National Conference on Net Zero Emissions at Graphic Era

Dehradun, January 15: Experts, researchers, and academicians from across the country gathered at Graphic Era to engage in in-depth discussions on clean energy technologies, net zero emissions, and issues related to sustainable development, while discussing on future energy strategies.

A three day national conference on Clean Energy Technologies and Net Zero Emissions started today at Graphic Era Deemed University. The chief guest, former Director General of the International Solar Alliance, Mr. Upendra Tripathi, stated that net zero emissions should not be viewed merely as a goal, but as a long-term development strategy. He emphasized that the theme of the conference is especially relevant for a Himalayan state like Uttarakhand, where the development of clean energy technologies can become a strong medium for livelihood generation along with environmental conservation. Mr. Tripathi said that progress towards net zero emissions is possible not only through the invention of new technologies, but also through the integrated and practical application of existing technologies.

Vice Chancellor of Graphic Era Deemed University, Dr. Narpinder Singh, said that energy demand is bound to increase rapidly in the coming years, making it extremely necessary to reassess the current sources of energy production. He informed that at present, nearly 60 percent of the country’s energy supply depends on coal, leading to a continuous rise in greenhouse gas emissions. This increasing emission is becoming a serious threat not only to the environment but also to human health.

During the three day national conference, ten technical sessions will be organized, focusing on various important aspects of clean energy technologies and net zero emissions. The sessions will cover topics such as solar energy development, energy storage systems, green hydrogen, research and development policy for clean energy, resource assessment, advanced solar PV technology, solar applications, bioenergy, and sustainable energy solutions. Around 120 participants from across the country will take part in the conference through both online and offline modes.

The national conference is jointly organized by the Centre for Clean Energy Research of Graphic Era Deemed University, the Centre for Sustainable Energy of IIT Roorkee, and the National Institute of Solar Energy under the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy. Participants of the conference include President of the Hydrogen Association of India, Dr. R. K. Malhotra, from the Interdisciplinary Centre for Energy Research of Indian Institute of Science Prof. S. Dasappa, Head of Centre for Sustainable Energy of IIT Roorkee, Prof. Soumitra Satapathy along with the Director of Centre for Clean Energy Research at Graphic Era Deemed University Dr. B. S.
