Gitika Pant, daughter of a taxi driver topped 12th Uttarakhand Board Examination

Gitika Pant, a student from Bageshwar district who topped 12th standard examination of Uttarakhand board this year with 98 percent marks, wants to pursue engineering as career as she thinks engineering is better field. She is a student of Sarswati Shishu Mandir Intermediate College Chauranim, Bageshwar.

She attributed her success to her family and good guidance from her teachers.

Despite limited resources available at home for furthering her studies after high school two years ago, by her hard work and dedication she was able to achieve the top rank.

Her father is a taxi driver having meagre income to run the family.

“if family support and guidance of good teachers is with you, scarcity of means does not matter,” said Gitika.

Munni Pant, her grandmother was committed that despite financial hardships, she would ensure that her studies are not discontinued. “Her late grand- father was a teacher and he always gave significance to studies,” said the grandmother.

Gitika was also a district topper with 97.6 percent marks two years ago in her 10th class board examination.

As people thronged her Tehsildar road house to congratulate her after declaration of the result in the morning, Ritika Pant, her mother said that despite limited means Gitika always gave priority to her studies. “I, always nourished big dreams for my daughter, and never let any constraint come in her way to achieve those big dreams,” said Ritika Pant, mother of Gitika.
