Uttarakhand Chief Secretary S.S Sandhu has said that civilian flights from Naini- Saini airport of Pithoragarh will commence in two months time as the company given the contact to run it is purchasing a new aircraft for the purpose.

“The tender process to run flights from here has been successfully completed and the company, which obtained the contract has assured the government to purchase a new aircraft required for the purpose in next 2 months ,”said the Chief Secretary.

The Chief Secretary inspected the Naini-Ssaini airport and base hospital in Pithoragarh on Wednesday. “We, have also widened the airport and have also started work on the list of works handed over to by the Airport Authority of India (AAI) to be completed before the start of civilian flights,” said the Chief Secretary.

In December last year, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has announced that the civil flights from the airport would start from January 31, 2023, but  the flights could not be operated from here.”The political has been lacking within the leadership to run civilian flights from here, otherwise the airport which is witnessing landing and take off of different categories of  aircrafts since it’s inauguration in 1992, would not have such difficulty in finding a company to operate a 20 seater aircraft from here,” said Mahendra Singh Lunthi, a senior Congress party  leader of Pithoragarh.
