Miscreants from Nepal threw stones on Indian labourers who were working for the construction of a flood protection wall along river Kali which forms the border with Nepal at Dharchula town of Pithoragarh district for the 12th time Tuesday evening,
“We have received information of stoning on Indian workers for the 12th time yesterday and have conveyed the message to Nepalese authorities to take action against the miscreants,” said Divesh Shashni, Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM), Dharchula.
According to the information, the stones were thrown on workers working on flood protection wall at Gosadan area of Dharchula.” As soon as the stoning started, the Indian workers fled to save themselves, .”said Rakesh Tiwari, a local resident and witness of the incident.
According to locals, it was the 12th incident of stone throwing on Indian workers in the last 50 days.”The Nepalese citizens should have come forward to stop such elements who are spoiling the traditional harmony amongst the two societies,” said Dhan Singh Dhami, Block ‘Pramukh’ of Dharchula.
India is constructing a 985 meters long flood protection wall along river Kali on it’s own side, to protect Dharchula town from monsoon floods of the river.”Nepal has already constructed a 5 km long protection wall on its side. “While the wall on the Nepalese side was under construction, we did not raised any objection but why some elements in Nepal are creating trouble for us,?” asked Krishna Garbiyal, a Dharchula resident.
