Tourists, mountaineers and trekkers can go up to Milam without inner line permits

Indo-Tibetan Border police (ITBP) has finally allowed the tourists, mountaineers and trekkers, to go up to Milam glacier and village without inner line permits, following the orders of Ministry of Home affairs, issued in the year 1993, District administration sources said here today.

“We have received a letter from  Robin Kumar, Deputy Commandant of 14th battalion of ITBP, informing us that it has ordered its staff to let go every tourist up to Milam village and Milam glacier, without taking inner line pass but seek permit to beyond that,” said Yashbir, Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) of Munsiyari.

According to Munsiyari SDM, the ITBP letter has come in response to his letter to the security force, dated 15/9/23, requesting to allow the tourist up to Milam glacier without permission as it has already permitted by MoH, Government of India via its letter No,15011, on 13/10/ 93. ” After this permission, the trekkers and researchers besides the ordinary tourists will be  benefited, “said the SDM.

Traders involved in tourism trade in Munsiyari said that as the permission to go up to Milam (61km from Munsiyari town), was not being given by the security force from last 30 years and it had affected over 15000 trekkers and researchers, who wanted to reach high Himalayan region to explore it, every year, ” said Puran Pandey, a hotelier in Munsiyari town.
