Prof. Abhay Karandikar urge students to continuously update their skills at Graphic Era’s convocation ceremony

Dehradun, May 19

A total of 5467 students were conferred with their graduate, postgraduate, and doctoral degrees in the 11th Convocation ceremony of Graphic Era Deemed University, held here today.

Professor Abhay Karandikar, Secretary of the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India, who was the chief guest on the occasion in his address urged the youngsters to continuously update their skills and give the best in their work.

The convocation ceremony commenced at the Silver Jubilee Convention Centre of Graphic Era, amid a grand and dignified academic procession. As the procession, accompanied by the military band, reached the vast convention center, people welcomed it with claps and cheers.

Professor Abhay Karandikar, encouraged the new degree holders to maintain a passion for learning, work diligently, and uphold honesty in their endeavors. He emphasized the importance of risk-taking and urged students to always strive for excellence in whichever field they choose for their careers.

Referring to the New Education Policy, Prof. Karandikar said that it has worked for creating a better coordination between the students and the teachers and has made education accessible for all. It has increased the use of technology in education. He highlighted the increase of practical approach as well and said that the education has become learner centric and enhancing the creativity in students, hence changing the dynamics of the country.

He said that ‘Covid 19’ had significantly changed the mode of education and  acknowledged the university’s initiative to provide online courses to undergraduate and post graduate students.

Known globally as the Missile man, memeber of the Niti Ayog and Chancellor of Graphic Era Deemed University Dr. V. K. Saraswat, in his address urged degree holders to maintain creativity, curiosity, enthusiasm and ethical values in life. Dr. Saraswat advised the youngsters to never shy away from their responsibilities, become leaders and maintain high standards in their endeavours wherever they work.

While quoting Swami Vivekananda, Missile Man Dr. V. K. Saraswat said that we should always believe in our strengths, as we have full potential. He addressed the young degree holders and said that it is with the courage and hard work of their teachers and parents, that they have achieved this milestone today. While talking about Graphic Era Deemed University Dr. Saraswat said that after its inception in 1993, the university has continued to grow exponentially in all the fields and today it is on 54th rank of top 100 Universities of India. It shows the dedication of Dr. Kamal Ghanshala. The environment of Graphic Era is vibrant and students of more than 23 countries are studying here. Graphic Era develops the zeal of learning and Innovation. The faculties of the University are included in the most cited top 2% scientists of the world.

89.9 % Medals won by Girls

In the Convocation ceremony of Graphic Era Deemed University, girls were far ahead of boys in winning the academic medals by securing 89.9 % medals of the last two years.

During the ceremony, 39 Gold, 40 silver and 37 bronze medals were given to students of passing out year 2022. Whereas, students of passing out year 2023 received 44 gold, 44 silver and 44 bronze medals. The girls received  89.9 % of the total medals. On this occasion, 66 researchers who have completed their research works in 14 subjects including engineering, management, computer science, maths, physics, chemistry, were honoured with PHD degrees.

A total of 2569 students who completed their course in 2022 and 2896 students who completed their courses in 2023 were awarded with their degrees in the convocation ceremony. Scholars who completed the PhD degree in 2024 were also awarded PHD degrees in the ceremony.

Graphic Era Group of Institutions’ Chairman Dr. Kamal Ghanshala advised students to stay away from insecure people. Dr. Ghanshala asked them to dream big and focus on their goals with full passion. He told them that when one dream is completed they should focus next on a bigger goal. He advised them to have the team spirit and focus on maintaining healthy body as well. Dr. Ghanshala said that if the youngsters learn here and go abroad, after acquiring knowledge there, they should come back and invest here. He expressed his joy and said that today top 4 scientists of the country are present on the stage.

In the convocation, Director of the National Institute of Advanced Studies, Dr. Shailesh Nayak was conferred with the honorary degree of Doctor of Science. Dr. Saraswat expressed his pride in the presence of top four scientists of the country in the event.

In the ceremony, Vice Chancellor Dr. Narpinder Singh administerd oath to the degree holders. Pro Chancellor Dr. Rakesh Kumar Sharma expressed gratitude. Registrar Dr. D. K. Joshi led the academic procession and presented the details of degree holders of the year 2022 and 2023. Scientist Dr. Sudhir Kumar Mishra, Vice Chancellor of Graphic Era Hill University Dr. Sanjay Jasola, memebers of the executive council, faculty members and huge number of parents were present during the convocation ceremony.
