117 villages in Pithoragarh district identified as landslide prone

Pithoragarh, June 21

District Disaster Management Office in Pithoragarh today declared 117 villages of border sub-divisions of Dharchula, Munsiyari and Bangapani, as highly sensitive from landslides points of view during the coming monsoon months.

“Besides these sensitive villages, we have also declared over 44 points in all motor roads of the district, as accident prone during monsoon,” said Bhupendra Singh Mahar, District Disaster Management Officer of the Pithoragarh. “The sensitive villages included, 58 villages of Dharchula and  59 villages of Munsiyari and Bangapani sub-divisions,” said Mahar. A total of 17 villages have also been identified for rehabilitation from three sensitive sub-divisions of the district.

Pithoragarh District Magistrate Reena Joshi has instructed all 8 sub- divisions of the district to remain on alert during monsoon.” We have decided to deputed over 70 JCB’s and pokland machines at 70 places in the district during monsoon rains, for, the relief works that could be started immediately after any landslide or any accident  on these roads,” said the DM.

In Champawat district, the district administration has declared 42 places as highly sensitive from accidents or landslides points of view in several roads in the district.”We have decided to deputed over 48 JCB machines in these places, we have also decided to open 3 flood control  centers and 5 flood relief camps in the district,” said Navnit Pandey, District Magistrate, Champawat.
