Minor girl raped, abandoned after engagement by policemen, case filed

Close on the heels of two alleged rape cases involving ruling Bharataiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders in the state, another case of rape, sexual exploitation and intimidation of minor girl by a police personnel has come to light in the capital city of Dehradun. On the intervention of Suryakant Dhasmana, Senior Vice-President of Uttarakhand Congress, case under relevant sections and Posco  Act have been registered against a constable of armed police and another person in this connection at Kempty Police station near Mussoorie under Tehri Garhwal district.

According to family members of the victim, the minor girl was admitted to the Coronation hospital in Dehradun few day ago where she delivered a premature baby who died after birth. It came to light that a constable of Uttarakhand police namely Nitesh Nautiyal got engaged to a minor girl in January 2024 and started having physical relations with her. The girl became pregnant but did not inform anyone. Meanwhile, the police constable also broke the engagement on the pretext that she had a relationship with a person named Naresh. It was alleged that Naresh had also raped the minor several times in the past.

Last week, the victim was admitted in the hospital where she delivered a premature baby. Her family members did try to file a FIR against the alleged accused who is presently on polling duty in J&K. While, the victim was in the hospital, a policemen posted at Dalanwala police station also reportedly pressurised the parents of the girl to withdraw the case.

Suryakant Dhasmana who was approached by the family members of the victim personally went to the hospital and met the family members of the victim and requested the doctors to provide full security and protection to the minor girl. She also asked the hospital administration to preserve the DNA samples of the dead baby for the case.

Ayush Aggarwal, SSP, Tehri Garhwal has said that case have been lodged against both the accused and magisterial statement of the victim would be taken after she is relieved from the hospital.

Suryakant Dhasmana said that in the light of intimidation and threats being received by the family members of the victim  adequate security arranagements should be made in the hospital. He charged that there was no security for the victim. He further demanded registration of a case against the police personnel who tried to intimidate and pressurise the family to withdraw the case. He said that he would meet Uttarakhand DGFP Abhinav Kumar to seek justice for the minor girl victim.
