CPI (ML) organise ‘Hand over stray cattle to the government’ at Lal Kuan, charge BJP/RSS of using cow as a means of getting votes and communal polarization

Dehradun , Sept 18

While the ruling BJP/RSS dispensation has been embarking on cow protection campaign, hundreds of villagers under the banner of  All India Kisan Mahasabha of Communist Party of India (Marxist-Leninist) CPI(ML) troubled by the destruction of agriculture and continuous road accidents due to stray animals,  drove stray cows and bulls and tied them at the tehsil office at Lal kuan in Nainital district of Uttarakhand.

CPIML state secretary Indresh Maikhuri, addressing the protestors charged that the BJP has nothing to do with the  plight of the cows but just a means of getting votes and indulge in communal polarization .  He said that the ruling BJP is not bothered about cows as was evident from the conditions of thousands of stray cows roaming on the streets of every city, town and villages causing destruction of crops and accidents on the roads.

He said that, whatever the BJP government claims to protect or declares sacred, ends up in the worst condition. Cows roaming around on the streets, eating polythene and drinking dirty drain water, are proof of the fact that no matter how much BJP and RSS people chant about “Gau Mata” but the cows are being treated shabbily under their rule in the past ten years.

Indresh charged that the Prime Minister is getting a photo shoot done with a cow calf in view of the upcoming assembly elections in many states but he should reply that why cows considered sacred are wandering on the roads eating plastic and garbage. He further said that while the Prime Minister and his party pretend to be cow lovers but they happily accept donations worth several hundred crores from beef companies.

He alleged that innocent people are being killed in the name of cow protection by cow vigilante groups of BJP/RSS in north India but the same BJP supports beef eating in the North East. Why is the BJP adopting such a double standard and why innocent people are mob lynched of attacked in the name of food, he asked.

Anand Singh Negi, State President of All India Kisan Mahasabha said that farming has come under threat due to stray cows and bulls in rural areas and frequent road accidents are happening due to stray animals  but the government has remained insensitive and indifferent. He said that the government will have to take immediate measures otherwise it would lead to bigger disaster.

Indresh Maikhuri, Uttarakhand state secretary addressing a gathering of All India Kisan mahasabha as part of ‘Hand over stray cattle to the government’ programme at Lal Kuan in Nainital district of Uttarakhand on Wednesday.

He further said that ‘Gaushalas’ are being presented as a solution to deal with the increasing number of stray cows, bulls, calves but the in these past yen years hundreds of cows were found dying in ‘Gaushalas’ due to lack of care in BJP ruled states like Rajasthan and  Madhya Pradesh.

He said that case of cows dying due to lack of proper care was also reported in the government Kanji House of Dehradun, the capital city of Uttarakhand. He said that cows are being sent to ‘Gaushalas’ only to provide the ‘Gaushala’ operators the benefit of government grants as  most of the ‘Gaushala’ operators are associated with the ruling BJP or its affiliated organizations. He alleged that the  BJP is using the plight of cows to benefit its own people and to cheat the common cattle keepers. He demanded a  permanent solution to the problem by abolishing the Cow Protection Act and guarantee purchase of cows.

CPIML District Secretary Dr Kailash Pandey said that the BJP government has been disrespecting  cow in the name of it’s protection and the goons carrying out mob lynching in the name of cows are being called ‘Gau Rakshaks’. “They do not protect cows but are attacking human life in the name of cow and such goons roaming masquandring as ‘Gau Rakshaks’ should be strictly controlled,” he said.

State Vice President of Kisan Mahasabha Bahadur Singh Jangi said that, Kisan Maha Sabha clearly believes that stray cattle is not a calamity caused by cattle keepers, it is a calamity caused by the government in favor of big capitalists. After the ‘Hand over stray cattle to the government’ program, a 7-point demand letter was sent to the Chief Minister of Uttarakhand through the sub-district magistrate Lalkuan.

The memorandum demanded that the Cow Protection Act should be repealed as soon as possible by taking a decision in favor of cattle owners, farmers and the general public ortherwise  government should purchase these animals by fixing a government price according to the condition of the cattle (landi, bakhdi, bailey cow, heifer-calf, bull, ox). Compensation of ten lakh rupees to the injured in attacks or accidents by cows and at least 50 lakhs rupees to the families of the deceased should be announced. The memorandum, demanded  adequate compensation to the farmers for the destruction of standing crops in the fields due to stray cows and bulls. The tehsil administration should make arrangements for stray cattle elsewhere as soon as possible while providing relief to the local people troubled by the terror of stray cattle and the continuous loss of life and property in the Lalkuan tehsil area. The administration should take cognizance of the mismanagement of ‘Gaushalas’. The Kisan Mahasabha also opposed any action against cattle keepers who are forced to abandon their animals. It warned that if any such action is taken against any farmer or cattle keeper anywhere then Kisan Mahasabha will be forced to protest.
