First batch of ‘Adi Kailash’ and ‘Om Parvat Yatra’ flagged off

Pithoragarh, May 1

The ‘Adi Kailash’ and ‘Om Parvat yatra’ by private tour operators started today, as  a convoy of several vehicles, carrying 350 pilgrims from different parts of the country were flagged off from Dharchula by SDM Ashish Joshi.

“We have till date received more than 500 applications for inner line permit for the yatra  and out of which 350 pilgrims have been issued permits to visit,” said the SDM.

Kumaon Mandal Vikas Nigam(KMVN), the government nodal agency for both ‘Adi Kailash’ and ‘Kailash Mansarowar’ pilgrimages, is to start it’s packaged yatra from May 7, this month.

According to the SDM, though all the preparations have been completed by administration at higher part of Yatra from Gunji to Jolingkong, the pilgrims have been told to take precautions of rapidly changing weather pattern in high Himalayan region.

“The doors of Lord Shiva temple, situated at Jolingkong were opened at 10.30 am according to religious rituals of Rung community,” said tbe SDM.

The pilgrimage to ‘Adi Kailash’, in Panch Kailash peaks, religiously known as dwelling areas of Lord Shiva in Himalayan region besides Kailash peak in Tibet, began simultaneously with ‘Kailash Mansarowar Yatra ‘in 1981 but got boost and wide popularity after Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited the sacred Hindu place on October 12, 2023.
