All set for ‘Adi Kailash Ultra Marathon Run’

More than 700 athletes, including 100 volunteers from all over the country, have registered for first ever ‘Adi Kailash Parikrama Marathon Run’ to be held on November 2, at 14000 feet high altitude of ‘Adi Kailash’ region of Pithoragarh district near Indo-China border.
“We have completed all the preparations for the run, including lodging, boarding facilities of guest athletes and starting issuing inner line permits for them from today,” said Kirti Aryan, District Tourist Officer (DTO), Pithoragarh.
The competition will be held in four categories including Ultra Marathon (60) from Jolingkong to Kalapani and back to Gunji, Marathon (42 km) from Gunji to Kuti and back, half marathon (21 km) from Gunji to Kuti and races of 10 and 5 km long.
“The Ultra Marathon will begin from 14000 feet high ‘Adi Kailash’ region of Jolingkong and remain at same elevation areas of Kalapani and Gunji, one of the highest elevation run in the state,” said the DTO.
Pithoragarh District Magistrate Ashish Bhatgai visited the region on October 23 and took stock of the preparations being done for the first such marathon in the state. “The Ultra Marathon will open new doors for high altitude tourism in the district and ultimately strengthen border and vibrant villages at Indo- China border,” said the DM.
