Notice issued to owners of ‘mosque’ at Berinag

Berinag town remained peaceful after an agitation by a Hindu outfit demanding closure of a house from where a ‘mosque’ is being run which they claimed as illegal.
“The house belonged to one Abdul Majid, who is now dead and his son Abdul Nazim is presently residing at Haldwani. We have given notice to Abdul Nazim asking him if he has given permission to use his house as a ‘mosque’,” said Shreshtha Gunsola, Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) of Berinag. The notice requires answer within 15 days of serving date of notice.
According to the SDM, the extra force has been called and provisions under 163 BNS have also been revoked.
A social unrest like situation had prevailed on November 9, after a Hindu organisation, Rashtriya Sewa Sangh, led by its president Himanshu Joshi, staged a dharma at Ganesh Chowk of the town demanding immediate closure of the ‘Mosque’ from a house claiming that it was illegal.
“The administration has served notice to the concerned owner of house, if he fails to answer whether he has permitted people to use his house as a mosque, the administration will force close the mosque,” claimed Himanshu Joshi, president of Rashtriya Sewa Sangh, an offshoot of ruling BJP/RSS.
