A house of Tehri dam affected villager caves in at Jakhnidhar block

A house collapsed at Luneta Bhattakanda village in Tehri dam affected Jakhnidhar block last night. The villager has demanded early rehabilitation as the frequent cave ins  poses threat to their lives if they continue to live in the house further.

Meanwhile, according to the rehabilitation department, the victim’s family has been given land for displacement under the rehabilitation package.

According to the villagers, the house of Rajendra Prasad,a resident of the village was damaged in village Luneta Bhattkanda of Jakhnidhar block adjoining Tehri dam last night. Fortunately, he along with his family was living in a nearby room.

Villagers said that they have been demanding displacement for the past several years but nothing has been done so far.  Former MLA Kishore Upadhyay, who rushed to the spot, said the problems arising out of the construction of the Tehri dam and the lack of respect for the agreements signed with the displaced and the affected over the past ten years are a matter of great concern.

He said that the entire village is living in panic due to cave in of Rajendra Prasad’s house. He has asked the administration to take cognizance of the matter immediately. He claimed that if his party comes to comes to power it will work to fulfil the promises of the displaced on a priority basis.  Gram Pradhan Madhu Bhatt and former pradhan Pradeep Bhatt said that the house of Rajendra Prasad of the village was damaged in the night and he is living under the fear of it collapsing further.

In this matter, Executive Engineer DS Negi of Rehabilitation Infrastructure New Tehri said that the victim’s family as per rules has been given 70 per cent house compensation and land entitlement.
