Army soldier who died in an avalanche cremated with military honours

Pithoragarh, April 3

The body of Vikas Kumar, (24) an army jawan of 19th Kumaon Regiment,  was cremated with full military honours at Rameswar ghat here today.

The body of the deceased soldier, reached his native village Gankot village near Pithoragarh town from Sikkim today early morning.

The soldier had died on March 21, at Sikkim border following getting trapped in ana avalanche while on a patrol duty at the border.

The deceased jawan is survived by his wife, a one-month-old boy, parents and a younger brother. “While the family was waiting him to come on leave to celebrate birthday of his one-year old child, we were shocked to hear about his death in an avalanche accident,” said  Neeraj Kumar, brother of the deceased soldier.
