SUCI(C) vehemently condemns hefty rise in salary and perks of MPs
New Delhi, March 26
Socialist Unity Centre of India ( Comunist), a left party has strongly condemned the rise in the pay and perks of Members of Parliaments (MP)s done recently.
Provash Ghosh, General Secretary, SUCI(C), issued the following statement on the issue:
“We vehemently condemn 24% rise in the pay packets and pensions of Members of Parliament (MPs), with retrospective effect from 1 April 2023. Now, With 788 MPs in total (543 in the Lok Sabha and 245 in the Rajya Sabha), the cumulative expenditure on all MPs has now reached about Rs 3,400 crore per year.
When the toiling masses of the country are bleeding white because of growing economic distress and pauperized with every passing hour and when wage growth in several sectors, especially for informal workers, has not kept any pace whatsoever with rising living costs and allotments towards food, education and health-care are reduced progressively, this hefty increase is uncouth to the core. The MPs are supposed to be people’s representatives but are they really serving the people or induced to grab more bucks and lead luxurious lives at the cost of peoples’ money? While they are expected to be looked after by the people, they, instead, are shamelessly inflating their pockets by drawing into the public exchequer.
Pertinent to mention that lone voice in the House against such unjust and undue favour to the legislators was that of Comrade Tarun Mandal when he was an SUCI(C) MP from 2009 to 2014. We cannot but also note that the actual intention behind hiking the salaries of the MPs in a regular manner, is to turn them to lackeys of the government and the ruling class.”
